What You Will Do
The Bleeding Disorder Surgery and OB Nurse Supervisor is responsible for promoting a positive patient and employee experience and expediting workflow within the obstetric and surgery nurse team, as well as providing nursing care to patients; to include: coordinating surgical procedures for adult and pediatric bleeding disorders patients, tracking and documenting surgical outcomes, and coordinating delivery and cord blood care recommendations for pregnant mothers.
Essential Nursing Functions:
1. Maintain working knowledge of all roles and responsibilities within the bleeding disorder obstetric and surgery nurse team.
2. In coordination with a physician, prepares surgery and delivery letters of care and distributes letters to appropriate personnel and facilities.
3. Documents the operative and postoperative surgical outcomes within the appropriate record systems, used for data collection and reporting.
4. Participates in weekly multidisciplinary surgery team meetings.
5. Facilitates the development and shipment of cord blood kits and follows up on results of cord blood specimens post-delivery.
6. Manage prescription refills under the direction of a physician.
7. Document encounters in the electronic medical record (EMR) system
Essential Supervisory Functions
1. Provide direct oversight and day-to-day leadership to the bleeding disorder obstetric and surgery nurse team to promote a sense of cohesiveness and effective team interactions across disciplines, while promoting efficient operations and positive patient experience and engagement.
2. Scheduling of staff and coordination of services to maintain workflow continuity as appropriate to ensure adherence to quality standards, or best practice standards utilizing MASAC guidelines and WHF Hemophilia Management Guidelines, established IHI procedures, and timeline commitments.
3. Oversee the training and instruction of new obstetric and surgery staff in job duties.
4. In collaboration with the Triage Nurse Manager, conduct performance reviews and year-end evaluations of assigned staff.
5. First line resolution of patient concerns, complaints or questions regarding policies and procedures.
6. Disaster point person, in coordination with the triage nurse manager and others re: safety and direction of patients and staff during fire, tornado, or other emergencies.
7. Works closely with the Triage Nurse Manager and Director of Clinical Programs- Nursing on clinic operational issues related to revision of policy and procedure, budget, resources, communication, and proactive QI/PI development, implementation, and outcome evaluation.
